The founder of Sikhism is being celebrated with pomp across the world this year. This time is the 550th Prakash Parv of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

Guru Nanak Jayanti 2019: Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji strengthened the brotherhood in the society and heralded a new era by giving the message of 'Naam Jaapo, Kirat Karo, Wand Chhako' to the world. It was Guruji who first started the langar to eliminate the evil of the high and low in society and as a symbol of brotherhood.

He was born in 1469 in Sri Nankana Sahib (Pakistan). Every year, the day of Kartik Purnima is celebrated with great enthusiasm in the country and abroad as their festival of light.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji spent his whole life in the service of humanity. He not only in India but also went to Afghanistan, Iran and Arab countries and taught people to stay away from hypocrisy. Guru Ji's birthday is celebrated as Guru Parva or Prakash Parv.

On the day of Prakashparva where grand decorations are done in the gurudwaras, the offerings of the Akhand Path Sahib are offered and anchors are offered. In cities, grand city kirtans are made. All the batches are given a grand welcome from place to place.

This time this festival is being celebrated on 12 November (Karthik Purnima). It is the 550th Prakash Parva of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. 72 years after the partition of India Pakistan, Pakistan-based gurudwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib has been opened to the accompaniment of India. Gurdwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib is the place where Guru Nanak Ji spent the last 18 years of his life. In the year 1539, he visited Jyoti Jot.

  • Guru Nanak Dev's father's name was Mehta Kalu, while the mother's name was Tripta Devi. Guru Nanak Dev Ji's sister was Nanaki.
  • Nanak Dev Ji was very patient since childhood. He opposed conservative thinking since childhood.
  • Once his father sent him 20 rupees to the market and said that he should bring the true deal. They gave food to the hungry monks with that money. After returning, he told his father that he had come to a real deal.
  • Guru Nanak Dev Ji's wife's name was Sulakhani, she was a resident of Batala. They had two sons, one son named Srichand and the other son named Lakhmidas.
  • Nanak Dev Ji founded Sikhism, he is the first Guru of Sikhs. He was a staunch opponent of superstition and ostentation.
  • Nanak Dev Ji was a philosopher, social reformer, poet, householder, yogi, and patriot.
  • Nanak Ji was against caste. He started the langar to eliminate this evil from society. In it, rich and poor, small and big and people of all castes sit and eat together.
  • Nanak Dev Ji propagated 'Nirgun Upasana'. He was against idol worship. He said that God is one, He is omnipotent, He is the truth.
  • Nanak Dev Ji made four sadis (yantras) to make the society aware. He visited places like Haridwar, Ayodhya, Prayag, Kashi, Gaya, Patna, Assam, Bikaner, Pushkar Tirtha, Delhi, Panipat, Kurukshetra, Jagannathpuri, Rameshwar, Somnath, Dwarka, Narmadat, Multan, Lahore etc.
